Zombie Owl Hat Free Crochet Pattern

I have always thought owl hats were over done. There are so many different versions out there but I have never seen a zombie one. So here is a zombie owl hat. This hat is actually going to be mine this winter :)

I would suggest going down a hook size for the eyes and nose for the toddler hat.

Materials:

5.0 mm crochet hook
DK yarn in green, red, orange, white and black.
Scissors
Yarn needle
Tape measure

THIS PATTERN IS WRITTEN IN US TERMS. IF YOU NEED HELP CONVERTING STITCHES TO UK TERMS PLEASE SEE THIS CHART THAT ALSO PROVIDES LINKS TO VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO COMPLETE THE BASIC STITCHES.  IF YOU NEED MORE ADVANCED INSTRUCTIONS PLEASE SEARCH YOUTUBE OR GOOGLE THE STITCH
Gauge:

First 2 rounds of hdc have a diameter of 4.5 cm or 1 3/4 inches. Please adjust hook size accordingly.

Pattern:

Size: Adult

Starting with a magic circle or ch 3 and join with a slip stitch.

Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc in circle. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)

Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)

Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next* around. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (36 hdc)

Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, hdc in next 2 stitches, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 2 st* around. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (48 hdc)

Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as hdc, hdc in next 3, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches*around. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (60 hdc)

Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in same stitch as hdc, hdc in next 4, *2 hdc in next stitch, hdc in next 4 stitches*around. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st (72 hdc)

Increase circle should measure 6.5 inches. If you need a bigger size add another increase round here.

Round 8-20: Ch 2, hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (84 hdc)

I find that 7.5 inches in length is perfect for my head, but the chart I go off suggests going to 8.5 inches for a adult woman’s head. So if you need more length continue working even for another 2 rounds.
