Avengers Graphgan

Lowest prices on the best yarn - guaranteed at knitpicks.com

I have a love hate relationship with this blanket. So many hours of work went into it, seriously, take a look at the amount of colour changes in the shield alone. But it was totally worth it. just look at the end result. I am sure the recipient will have a huge smile on his face when he opens it.

The Avengers Graph pattern can be found here. I'll be honest, this is the first graph pattern I have purchased so I wasn't sure on how they usually come. I thought it would be one big graph, not 12 different pages. I guess that would be fine if you wanted to print it off, but 12 A4 pages taped together is huge and I personally prefer to work off a screen. So before I started I had to screenshot and paste all the different sections into a Paint Document to make one complete graph. Then I used the line tool to mark each completed row. It worked but it was a lot of extra work for the price of the pattern.

Another thing was it didn't mention the amount of yarn I needed for each colour. It does have a chart with the colours of Caron Simply Soft you need, all 12. I am in New Zealand so I looked online for the colours, thinking I could get them shipped but over half were sold out and because I wasn't sure how many I needed I didn't want to risk not ordering enough. Thankfully I found a brand here that had most of the colours I needed. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find a skin colour though. I tried to keep track of how many balls I used. Please note though they are not Caron Simply Soft and all yarn brands have different meters per 100 grams. So it's just an estimate of the amount of DK 100 gram balls.

Bone - 1
Robin's Egg Blue - 1
Black - 5
Autumn Red - 4
Super Duper Yellow - 2
Dark Country Blue - 1 if just doing the Avengers characters, 2 if you are doing the word also.

Pumpkin - 1
Dark Charcoal Gray - 2
Brown - 1
Heather Grey - 1
White - 1
Dark Kelly Green - 1

The original graph with a gauge of 14 HDC and 10 Rows in 4 inches, using a 5mm crochet hook and DK yarn measures 34' x 46' and would be cot or lapghan size. My customer wanted a single bed size. So to increase the width I added 15 stitches on each side.

15 + 120 + 15 = 150

I also added 8 rows of black to the bottom before starting the graph. The Avengers graph that I used at the top can be found here.

This is 146 wide and 51 high. So I simply added 2 stitches each side before starting the graph.

Then I added another row of black before doing 2 rounds of a simple hdc border. My finished blanket measured 45' by 72'.
