Woodland Blanket C2C Squares

The Big Sale at knitpicks.com

Above patterns can be found here: http://www.ravelry.com/stores/teri-heathcote-designs

I was going to wait and get a video tutorial but a few people have been asking for the pattern for the base squares.

I thought in order for people to get started I would put together a quick photo tutorial. You can also search for C2C squares on YouTube. There are a few videos to pick from.

These squares work out to measure 12 x 12 inches and are 18 squares high and 18 across.

Materials:

8ply/dk yarn in white (450 grams) and green (300 grams). I used 4 Seasons.
4 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

Pattern:
Click on each photo to enlarge.

Starting with white,
Row 1: Ch 6, dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into the next 2 chs. (1 square)

Row 2: Ch 6, turn, dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into the next 2 chs, sl st into the space between the ch 3 and first dc of row 1's square. (2 squares)

Row 3: Ch 6, turn, dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into the next 2 chs, *sl st into the next space (see arrow) ch 3, 3 dc into the same space* Repeat a total of 2 times. (3 squares)

Row 4:Ch 6, turn, dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into the next 2 chs, *sl st into the next space (see arrow) ch 3, 3 dc into the same space* Repeat a total of 3 times. (4 squares)

Row 5: Ch 6, turn, dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into the next 2 chs, *sl st into the next space (see arrow) ch 3, 3 dc into the same space* Repeat a total of 4 times. (5 squares)

Repeat (increasing repeats each row) until you have 18 squares across or the sides measure 12 inches. My example square only has 5 squares across.

To start decreasing,

Row 6: Turn, sl st between the dc stitches (3) until you reach the first space. *Ch 3, 3 dc, sl st into the next space* Repeat a total of 3 times. (4 squares)

Row 7: Turn, sl st between the dc stitches (3) until you reach the first space. *Ch 3, 3 dc, sl st into the next space* Repeat a total of 4 times. (4 squares)

Row 8: Turn, sl st between the dc stitches (3) until you reach the first space. *Ch 3, 3 dc, sl st into the next space* Repeat a total of 3 times. (3 squares)

Row 9: Turn, sl st between the dc stitches (3) until you reach the first space. *Ch 3, 3 dc, sl st into the next space* Repeat a total of 2 times. (2 squares)

Row 10: Turn, sl st between the dc stitches (3) until you reach the first space. *Ch 3, 3 dc, sl st into the next space*. (1 square)

Finish off.

To make the border, join green yarn in the top left ch space.

Round 1: Place 3 hdc into each corner, 1 hdc into each space between the dcs and 1 hdc into each ch space. Sl st to join. Count the stitches on each side of the square and ensure they are all even.

Round 2: Place 3 hdc into each corner and a hdc into each hdc. Sl st to join.

Mark the top left corner with a piece of yarn so when it comes to joining your squares and sewing on your appliques all the squares are facing the same way.

Weave in all ends.

To join I single crocheted my squares together. You can find other joining methods here:

http://www.knotyournanascrochet.com/2013/04/10-different-ways-to-join-granny-squares.html?m=1

The border is 2 rounds of hdc in green, 1 round of dc in white, and another round of hdc in green. Make sure you have the same number of stitches on each parallel side, place 3 stitches in each corner to turn.
