Large Flower Hair Bow Holder

I needed to come up with a quick present for a friends little girl and this is what came to me. I was inspired by this super cute bow one from Cakers Crochet http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/i-like-big-bows-bow-holder but I thought I would rather a flower at the top so that is what I did. It will make a great last minute Christmas gift and the flower and butterfly patterns can be used for a variety of other things. The flower measures 6 inches in diameter and the butterflies measure 1 inch.

Materials:
DK/8 ply yarn (you could use worsted weight. It will just turn out slightly bigger) in purple and pink. I used 35 grams of the purple yarn which was Moda Vera Marvel.
5.0 mm crochet hook
White Felt
1 metre of ribbon
Hot Glue Gun (super glue will work too)
Scissors
Yarn needle

Gauge: 4 sc and 4 rows = 1 inch

Pattern:

Flower:

Ch 105,

Row 1: Dc into the 6th ch from the hook (the 6 skipped ch’s count as 1 dc, ch 2), (dc, ch 2, dc) into each stitch across. (100 ch 2 spaces)

Row 2: Ch 1, turn, *6 hdc into ch 2 space, sc into next ch 2 space* Repeat 10 times. *8 dc into next ch 2 space, sc into next ch 2 space* Repeat 20 times. *10 tr into next ch 2 space, sc into next ch 2 space* Repeat 20 times. (Total of 50 shells)

Starting from the end with the hdc shells (this will become the centre of the flower), roll into a spiral shape, stitching together as you go.

 Butterflies: make two

Starting with a magic circle,

Round 1: *Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, sc into the circle,* Repeat between * for a total of 2 times. *Ch 4, 2 tr, ch 4, sc into the circle* Repeat between * for a total of 2 times.

Finish off, pull circle tight and weave in ends. Wrap a contrasting colour of yarn around the middle of the wings and tie in a double knot. Cut the ends to the same height to make the antennae.

Assembly:

1: Lay ribbon out as shown

2. Glue butterflies to bottom of ribbon.

3. Attach flower to ribbon.

4: Cut a circle slightly smaller than the flower and glue to the back.

Attach hair clips and you're finished!
