Pattern:
To begin I used rounds 1-6 of this pattern
Round 7 -11 : Sl st to first ch space, *sc in ch space, ch 7* repeat around. Sc into first ch 7 space to join round.
Round 12-20: Sl st to first ch space, *sc in ch space, ch 5* repeat around. Sc into first ch 5 space to join round.
Everyone has their own preference for length so either stop here or continue until you reach desired mesh length. (this does not include handle).
Round 21: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as ch 1. Place 5 sc in each ch space. Skip each sc. Join to first sc with a sl st.
Round 22: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as ch 1. Sc around. Join to first sc with a sl st.
Round 23: Ch 1, sc2tog around. Join to first sc with a sl st
Round 24- 26: Ch 1, sc in same stitch as ch 1. Sc around. Join to first sc with a sl st.
Now working the handle.
Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 8 st. (9 hdc)
Row 2- 48: Ch 2, turn. Hdc across. (9 hdc)
You can either finish off here or continue until the strap is the length you would like.
Sew end of strap to other side and weave in all ends.
i will do you one better, use plarn when making these bags. totally reduce, re-use, recycle.
ReplyDeletefold plastic bags, cut off handles and bottom, cut into 2" strips (which open to loops). interweave the loops forming plarn = plastic yarn.
you will have to use a bigger hook, but it's worth it
all my friends are bringing me their plastic bags to plarn with
I have seen plarn before but never thought to use it for this. Someone else might decide to use this idea as it is a great way to re use plastic bags.
Deletewhat is plarn and how is this done.need pattern
ReplyDeletePlarn is yarn made from plasic shopping bags. Here is a great tutorial on how to make it. http://www.plasticbagcrafts.com/make-plarn/
Deletei was also going to make this with plastic bags! great minds.... ;-P
ReplyDeletePlastic bags here, too. And I'm going to also use my old VCR tapes!
ReplyDeleteIf you use plarn you may want to use cotton yarn with plarn for the handles It makes it stronger. All my stores have same boring colors so I cut up Poise bags, cat litter labels etc This gives you more variety. Cutting the bags is hard on your hands and sissors I also cut up the bag as i go along. I hate making balls and it doesn't tangle up
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to get an approximate finished size for this project?
ReplyDeletethanks!
Idk, but I'm gonna add it to my pile of projects that I will someday make!
ReplyDeleteI've just made this using 2 odd balls of Debbie bliss cotton do, they were different dyelots and have been in my stash for about 7 years. The yarn ran out once the bag was about 12 inches long and I've done the top edge and handle in an odd ball of Katie degrade. IT looks great and is super strong!
ReplyDeleteI have followed this pattern and am now on row 14 and its completely flat! Im not the best crocheter but so know how to do every stitch and im pretty good at reading patterns!
DeleteDoes anyone know how this went wrong?? Its so beautiful but its flat🤔
Thanks
I am making this using nylon twine I got at the hardware store. Very sturdy, no stretch and cheaper than cotton from yarn store
