Men's Slouch
(modeled by a woman)
A friend of mine made me a logo so in return I made him a slouch hat and will also be making him some slippers. I decided to write out how I made it as I went. This hat would probably take less than an hour to make and works up quickly using 4 strands of DK (or light worsted) and a 10 mm hook. It should fit a 23 inch head and as you can see it is a loose fit on my new head.
DK Yarn - Held 4 strands together
10mm hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Pattern
Starting with the magic circle
Round 1: Ch 3, 9 dc into circle. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st. (10)
Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch as ch 3. 2 dc in each stitch around. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st. (20)
Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as ch 3, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next* around. Join to the top of ch 3 with a sl st (30 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 3, dc in same st as ch 2, dc in next 2 stitches, *2 dc in next stitch, dc in next 2 st* around. Join
to the top of ch 3 with a sl st (40 hdc)
Circle should have an 8 inch diameter
Rounds 5-8: Ch 3, dc around. join to ch 3 with a sl st
Round 9: Ch 3, dc in next 8, dc2tog. * dc in next 9, dc2tog* repeat around. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st (36)
Round 10: Ch 1, sc around. Join with a sl st to first sc. Finish off
Weave in all ends

ReplyDeleteI would love to see it when you are done. If you have any problems with sizing let me know.
DeleteHi, love your pattern, but I was wondering if you have to use dk yarn with 4 strands. I would like to use camo. Thank you
ReplyDeleteHi there, I used 4 strands of DK to get the bulky look that my customer wanted. If you wanted to use less strands I would suggest trying to find another pattern, sorry I can't help any more.
Deletewould super bulky work with 1 strand
ReplyDeleteHi there, I suggest doing the first 4 rounds and measuring the circle to see if it measures 8 inches. If not you could still use that yarn but just increase the hook size or do another round with a few more increases.
DeleteThanks! Hubby wanted a slouchy hat. I used what I had on hand. Red heart super saver in black - 3 strands. N hook. Followed the pattern as written, the 8" measurement was very helpful to make sure I was on track. Turned out perfect, about 50 minutes start to finish.
