Row 6: Repeat row 5.
5th Granny Square
I was making a fairy wand for my Little Blossom's Blanket and ended up with a hexagon when I needed a star. So instead of frogging the hexagon I thought I would create my own Granny Square.
Starting with a magic circle or ch 4 and join with a sl st to make a circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 2 dc into the circle, ch 3, *3 dc into the circle, ch 3* Repeat 4 more times for a total of 6 clusters. Sl st to top of ch 2 to join.
Round 2: Sl st across to first ch 3 sp. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into first ch 3 space. *3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* in remaining ch 3 sp for a total of 12 clusters. Sl to top of ch 3 to join.
Round 3: Ch 3, *1 dc into each dc (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) into each ch 2 space. Repeat around. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st.
Change colour, join yarn in any ch 2 space,
Round 4: Ch 4, (2 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) into first ch 2 sp, skip 5 stitches, ch 2, dc between 5th and 6th st. Ch 2, sc into ch 2 sp, ch 2, skip 5 stitches, dc between 5th and 6th st.
Ch 2, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) into next ch 2 sp. Ch 1, skip 2 st, dc between 2nd and 3rd st, ch 1, dc between 5th and 6th st, ch 1, dc between 8th and 9th st.
Ch 1, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) into next ch 2 sp. Ch 2, skip 5 st, dc between 5th and 6th st. Ch 2, sc into ch 2 sp, ch 2, skip 5 st, dc between 5th and 6th st,
Ch 2, (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) into next ch 2 sp. Ch 1, skip 2 st, dc between 2nd and 3rd st, ch 1, dc between 5th and 6th st, ch 1, dc between 8th and 9th st. Ch 1, sl st to top of ch 4 to join.
Change colours and join in any corner sp,
Round 5: Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into first ch 2 sp, *3 dc, ch 1* in next ch sp, repeat until corner. (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner. * 3 dc, ch 1* in next ch sp. Repeat until back to beginning and join to top of ch 3 with a sl st. Finish off.
Change colours and join in any corner sp,
Round 6: Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, dc into the corner, *ch 1, 3 dc into next ch 1 space.* Repeat until next corner. Ch 1, 3 dc, 2 dc, 3 dc into corner. Continue around using the same method. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st.
Flower
Round 1: Pull yarn through gaps as shown in picture, join with a sl st. Ch 6, join through next loop with a sl st as shown. Repeat around. When you have 6 ch spaces, join to first sl st with a sl st.
Round 2: *Sc into next ch 6 sp, hdc, 2 dc, 2 tr, 2 dc, hdc, sc into same ch 6 sp* Repeat 5 more times for a total of 6 petals. Join to first sc with a sl st and finish off.
Please let me know if you find any mistakes. I tried to get it tested but no one replied.
6th Granny Square
4 Hearts Square - http://hooksandyarns.blogspot.com.es/2011/07/4-heart-square.html
I did another 3 rounds to get 8 inches as follows.
Row 6: Repeat row 5 in pattern above
Row 7: Join yarn in any corner space. Ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner sp. *Ch 1, skip 4 st, 3 dc between 4th and 5th st* Repeat until corner (you will be left with 3 st before corner) { 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc} into corner* Repeat between * around.
Now you will have noticed that I am trying to end each of my squares with the same amount of stitches on each side. I am hoping to keep doing this as it will help with the way I want to join my squares but it is not necessary. I know a few of you have been adding a row of sc to get the 8 inch size which is fine. I am hoping to do a post during the middle of the week of joining techniques and how to make a blocking block (not sure what else to call it).
I can't wait to see your Granny Squares. Remember to post them on my Facebook wall to gain an entry into the draw to win a single pattern free from my Ravelry Store

I knew I shouldn't have taken a peak here before bed. It's 23:46 here but I'm dying to start on these new grannies! I love that you chose the 4 heart square as one of the patterns to make this time, I've pinned that same pattern ages ago but never got round to actually making it. Also very impressed you made your own granny. I've tried that ones but I always ended up with shapes anything but square :s. Thanks for al the work you are putting into this, I'm greatly enjoying this CAL
ReplyDeleteLaetitia I am really enjoying the squares you are pinning. Now to choose one for next week. That is the biggest problem lol. Which one to do next. So many Beautiful ones.
DeleteYet again I am behind but trying to catch up :) Enjoying it though! I've not done granny squares for so long! I'm having a bit of a problem with the 4 hearts square...it's coming out much bigger than all my other squares. Do I need to use a smaller hook for that one? This is definitely testing my crochet skills ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I am using a 5.00mm hook for all the squares but going down a hook size will definitely help make it smaller. Good luck.
DeleteOk! I did it! I tightened my stitches a bit and it's the exact right size now! Thank you :)
