Crochet Skull Neck Warmer

It's summer here at the moment but we have had a few cold evenings lately. My husband and I happened to be out on the motorbike on one of these nights. Brr was my neck cold. I ended up with my husbands neck warmer on so he suffered on the way home and not me. Of course I felt bad so I decided to whip up my own neck warmer the next night.

I really like the fabric skull neck warmers they sell and I had come across a knit version a while back. I can knit but not as fast as I can crochet. I asked the designer back then if she minded me linking to her chart and she was fine with it. So I decided to incorporate it into my neck warmer. I choose pink because it matches my jacket and gloves.

To get the chart you will have to download this free pattern:

Size: Women's - 22 inches (55 cm)

To adjust the size.

Chain a length that fits snuggly around your nose, so mine was 80 + 1 for the turning ch. - 33 for the graph and ÷ the remaining stiches by 2. So mine was 23.5. Because you can't  do half a stitch I changed it to 24 stitches worked at the start of the graph and 23 at the end.

To make the crochet version you will need:

4.5 mm crochet hook (or hook that matches gauge)
8 ply/dk yarn in pink and white
Yarn needle
Scissors
Tape measure

Gauge: 15 sc x 21 rows in 4 inches

Tutorial on changing colours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhm6WK5cqxU

Note: CH 1 does not count as a sc.

Pattern:

Row 1: CH 81, sc into the 2nd CH from the hook and in each CH across.

Row 2- 42: CH 1, turn, sc into the next 24 stitches, work chart, sc in the next 23 stitches. (80 sc)

Finish off leaving a 18 inch tail.

Bring the two short ends of the neck warmer together with the wrong side facing out. Whip stitch the ends together. Weave in remaining ends.
