To make this an 8 inch square instead of following the pattern exactly I continued with round 9 until the square measured 8 inches

56th Granny Square

To make this an 8 inch square finish pattern. Continue in rounds of dc in each stitch, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in each corner until square measures 8 inches.
