Miles the monster is the second monster in my collection. I am not sure how many I am going to make at this stage but you can see my other monster here:

Miles the monster measures 5 1/2 by 5 inches and is great to put on handmade cards, canvases, crochet or knitted clothing and blankets. The possibilities are endless.
Materials:
8 ply yarn in red, white and yellow
3.5 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Hot glue (optional)
Note: Ch 2 counts as a hdc
Pattern:
Body: with red
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, hdc in next st. * 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st* Repeat around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st. (36 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 3, dc into the same st as ch 3, dc in next 2 st. *2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 st* Repeat between * 2 times. *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 st* Repeat between * 3 times.*2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 st* Repeat between * 3 times. *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 st* Repeat between * 3 times. Join to top of ch 3 with a sl st (48 st)
Round 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as ch 1, sc in next 13 st, ch 8, sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook, ch 2, sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook (same ch as first sl st), ch 2 sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook. Sc in next 5 ch's. Sc in next 9, ch 11, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 3 ch's, sc in next 5 ch's. sc in next 3 st's, ch 11, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 3 ch's, sc in next 5 ch's, sc in next 9 st. ch 8, sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook, ch 2, sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook (same ch as first sl st), ch 2 sl st into the 3rd ch from the hook. Sc in next 13 st. Join to top of first sc with a sl st. (48 sc, 2 arms and 2 legs)
If sewing applique to item make sure to leave a tail long enough to use.
Horns: with yellow
I find it easier to count from the first stitch after the right arm. Join yarn for first horn in 10th stitch and join the yarn for the 2nd horn in the 18th stitch.
Ch 3, join to same st with a sl st and finish off.
White of Eye:
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)
Join with a sl st and finish off. Leave long tail if sewing.
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)

Black of Eye:
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc into the circle. Join to first sc with a sl st. Leave a long tail if sewing.
Mouth:
There are three possible ways to do this.
1. Chain the length you want and then stitch on.
2. Embroider using the chain stitch

I decided to use the surface crochet method.
For the teeth I just embroidered mini triangles with white yarn.
Glue or sew your pieces together following the picture.
Your monster can now be used to add a special touch to your projects.
