I find crochet appliques can really add something to a project. You can use them on just about anything. Hats, scarves, cardigans, bags or blankets. You can even glue them to your handmade cards like I did or even put them in small frames for the wall.
Since Halloween is only 2 months away I decided a set of crochet monster appliques would be perfect. There is more to come so keep an eye on my Facebook page so you don't miss them.
This One Eyed Monster measures 4 x 3 inches.
Materials:
8 ply yarn in blue, white, green and black
3.5 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Hot glue (optional)
Note: Ch 2 counts as a hdc
Pattern:
Body: with blue
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, hdc in next st. * 2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st* Repeat around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st. (36 hdc)
Round 4: Ch 1, sc into the same st as ch 1, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in next 2 ch's, sc in next 7 st, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and in next 2 ch's, sc in next 12st, ch 11, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 3 ch's, sl st in next 5 ch's. sc in next 5 st's, ch 11, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 3 ch's, sl st in next 5 ch's, sc in next 11 st.
Join to first sc with a sl st and finish off. Leave a tail if sewing.
White of eye:
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 hdc)
Round 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st as ch 1, sc in next st. *2 sc in next st, sc in next st* Repeat around. Join to the top of the first sc with a sl st. (36 sc)
Finish off leaving a tail if you are sewing.
Green of eye:
Starting with a magic circle,
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the same st as ch 1, 2 sc in each st around. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st (24 sc)
Black of eye:
Starting with a magic circle
Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc into the circle. Join to first sc with a sl st (10 sc)
Finish off leaving a tail if you are sewing
Assembly:
- If sewing weave in all the ends not needed for sewing (usually the yarn left at the start). If gluing weave in all the ends.
- Sew/glue body to item.
- Sew/glue white eye to item
- Sew/glue green eye to item
- Sew/glue black eye to item.
