Blanket measures 34 x 36 inches
Materials:
DK/8 ply yarn in white and pink
3.00 mm crochet hook for the blanket, 5.00 mm crochet hook for the flower
Scissors
Yarn needle
Gauge: 10 stitches and 5 rows in a 2 inch square
Pattern:
Rectangles: Make 10 pink and 10 white. Each rectangle measures 6.75 x 8.25 inches.
Row 1: Ch 43, dc in 4th ch from the hook and in remaining ch's (41 dc)
Row 2-15: Ch 3, turn. dc across. (41 dc)
Finish off and weave in ends.
Note: If I had of had enough pink yarn I would have gone around each square with a round of sc before finishing off just to make it look a little neater when joining. But since the yarn I used was no longer available I had to make do with what I had.
Joining rectangles:
I chose to single crochet all my squares together because I like the raised look it gives you on the front. Here is a mini tutorial for this:
Lay rectangles out how you would like the finished blanket (right side facing up) |
Sit down on the side of the blanket |
Still with right sides facing out hold the rectangles together |
Join yarn in the corner, ch 1 and sc into the same stitch |
Continue to sc across. When you come to the next rectangle simply continue to crochet across. (sorry about the photo being the wrong way around) |
This is what it should look like so far. Repeat for the next row. |
Turn the blanket around |
Repeat the instructions as above for the horizontal joins. Weave in all ends. |
The main thing you need to worry about when placing a border around a blanket is making sure that the top and bottom of the border have the same stitches and that both sides have the same stitch count. Otherwise you may end up with a lopsided blanket.
Round 1: Join yarn in any corner, ch 1, 3 sc into the same stitch (makes corner) sc across, when you reach the next corner place 3 sc into the same stitch. Continue to sc around placing 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc with a sl st.
Round 2: Is round 2 from this pattern http://crochet.about.com/od/edgings/ss/Lacy-Vs-Edging.htm
Round 3: is round 4 of this pattern http://crochet.about.com/od/edgings/ss/Lacy-Vs-Edging.htm
Flower:
Starting with a magic circle or ch 3 and join with a sl st.
Round 1: Ch 2, 11 hdc into the circle (12 hdc)
Round 2: Ch 1, sc into the same stitch as ch 1, 5 dc into the next st. *sc in next st, 5 dc in next st* repeat between * around. Join to top of first sc with a sl st. (6 petals made)
Round 3: Turn, *ch 3, sl st into front loop (loop closest to you) of sc* Repeat between * around. Join in first ch 3 space with a sl st. (6 ch3 spaces made)
Back of flower after round 3 |
Round 4: Turn, *sc, 7 dc, sc* into each ch 3 space around. Join to first sc with a sl st. (6 petals made)
Round 5: Turn, *ch 4, sl st into front loop (loop closest to you) of sc* Repeat between * around. Join in first ch 4 space with a sl st. (6 ch4 spaces made)
Round 6: Turn, *sc, 2 dc, 5 tr, 2 dc, sc* into each ch 4 space around. Join to first sc with a sl st. (6 petals made)
Finish off leaving a tail for sewing flower to each pink rectangle.
