Digger Applique

Digger measures 7" by 5"

Materials:

DK/Light WW yarn in yellow, grey and black
4.50 mm hook

Pattern:
Body: Yellow

Row 1: Ch 13. Hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and remaining 10 ch's. (12 hdc)
Row 2-4: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each stitch across. (12)
Row 5: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 7 st. (8 hdc)
Row 6: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2tog, hdc in next 5 st. (7 hdc)
Row 7: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in next 3 st, hdc2tog, hdc in last st (6 hdc)
Row 8: Ch 2, turn. Hdc2tog, hdc in next 3. (5 hdc)

Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st as ch 1, sc evenly around entire piece placing 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc and finish off leaving a tail for sewing.

Window: Grey

Row 1: Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 2 ch. (4 hdc)
Row 2: Ch 2, turn. Hdc in each stitch across.

Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st as ch 1, sc evenly around entire piece placing 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc and finish off leaving a tail for sewing.

Tracks: 

Starting with black

Round 1: Ch 9, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook and in next 5 ch, 5 hdc into the last ch. Now working on the other side of the ch, hdc in next 6 st. 4 hdc in last st. Join to the top of ch 2 with a sl st. (22 hdc)

Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as ch 2, hdc in next 6 st. 2 hdc in each of the next 5 st, hdc in next 6 st, 2 hdc in each of the next 4 st. Join to top of ch 2 with a sl st and finish off with black. (32 hdc)

Join grey in any stitch around.

Round 3: *Ch 3, sl st into same st as ch 3, skip 1 st, sl st into next st* Repeat around. Sl st into same sp as beginning ch 3 and finish off.

Yellow things that attach to bucket: with yellow (sorry I didn't know name)

Row 1: Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from the hook and remaining ch's (3 sc)
Row 2-7: Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st as ch 1 and next 2 st. ( 3 sc)

Ch 1, Sc in same st as ch 1, sc evenly around entire piece placing 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc with a sl st. Do not finish off.

2nd piece of bucket holder:

Row 1:Ch 1, turn. Sc into the same st as ch 1 and next 2 st (3 sc)
Row 2-7: Ch 1, turn. Sc in same st as ch 1 and next 2 st. ( 3 sc)

Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st around piece until you get to where the second piece of the bucked holder starts. Surface sl st across to the other side and continue around piece. Join to first sc with a sl st. Finish off leaving a tail for sewing.

Bucket: with grey

Row 1: Ch 4, 6 dc into the 4th ch from the hook (7 dc)

Ch 1, sc across flat side, 2 sc in each of the 7 dc. Join to first sc with a sl st. Finish off leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

1. Weave in all ends not needed for sewing
2. Sew window to digger body
3. Sew digger body to item placing bucket holder slightly behind body.
4. Sew bucket holder to item
5. Sew tracks and bucket to item
